Steps to Creating a New You

Seasons of life require changes and changes can be overwhelming.  Some changes can be forced on us and others are by choice.  It doesn’t matter.  What matters is not getting caught up in muck of the change and to actually be able to step forward.  One of the hardest seasons of life I see people going through is the empty nest syndrome or facing retirement.

You don’t have to stay in a syndrome or face something in life that may seems daunting.  There’s a better way to go through changes and create a new you on the other side of the change.  One of the best ways to do that is to understand who you are.

Stepping into the Pathway to Creating a New You

First let’s talk about what this isn’t.  This isn’t a quick fix to become someone you are not.  This isn’t a way to escape who you were created to be and run off the rails.

What this is, is a pathway that will get you moving in the direction that will add value to your life.  This pathway is the beginning of figuring out what you are going to do next with your life.

The best place to start is to realize where you are stuck and need to make changes.  We all get stuck in life but naming the things that have you stuck is the first step to letting go so change can happen.

This also takes courage.  Being stuck in old ways, means owning it.  It means being honest with yourself.

  1. Take time to reflect and then write down 5 areas in life where you are feeling stuck.  Be real and raw with yourself.  Maybe it’s all physical or it’s emotional or even spiritual.  I like to say when you are doing this exercise to write down the first 5 areas that pop in your head.  Don’t over analyze it or justify your thoughts, just write.

  2. Not as easy as it seems, right?  If that was hard, try writing down 5 things that negative voice in your head is telling you right now.  Please tell me I’m not the only one.  We all have those voices that tells us, “nothing will ever change”, “this won’t work”, “I can’t do this” and the worst one of all “I’m not good enough”.  Those negative thoughts may be the key to where you are stuck in life.

  3. It’s time to take the power away from the negative voices.  When you are creating a new pathway for your life, there is no space in your head for negativity.  Fill the space with vision.  What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?  What if you stopped listening to the negative voice?  What would happen in your life?  Write down 5 things that will happen when you stop listening to the negative voices in your head.

You are on Your Way

How did that feel?  Those simple things, examining areas where you are stuck, calling out the negative voices and dreaming about what you will do next can be empowering.  It’s the beginning of making healthy changes in your life as you step into new seasons of your life.

If you are looking for more ways to create the new you, Discover Your Real Life maybe an option to helping you move forward.  Today maybe your day to not just take a first step but to realize there is move for you in your next season of life.
