Pursuing Your Passon
Everyone talks about being passionate about something and then pursuing it. It sounds fun, exciting and even romantic unless you have no idea what you are passionate about. Maybe you have several things you want to pursue but none of them really express you. It’s more of a “I would like to try to do that” or “Maybe that would be fun”. Rather than feeling passionate about something you’re more just curious. That’s okay, that’s how passions grow.
Remember when you met your first love, you were curious about that person. There might have been a spark; but you still wanted to know more about that person. Or maybe it was a topic in school or a person you met that you wanted to get to know more. Whatever it was, passion wasn’t the first thing that happened. Passion grows out of doing and learning.
When I first started to travel my trips were about places I wanted to visit. I really wasn’t passionate about the place until after I had visited and got to know more about it. Pursuing your passion is like that. Until you learn more, your passion is going to run a little flat. As you get to know more, your passions grow. But then what do you do? How to you pursue that passion?
It stands to reason that when you are passionate about something you pursue it, you want to do it all the time. My passion for helping others get unstuck from the boxes that life put them in is something I think about all the time. I’m always looking for ways to help others. But you may find that not to be the same with you. You may have a specific passion and have absolutely no idea how to go about pursuing it. That’s probably more common than most people realize. I wonder how often people do nothing because they don’t know where to start. It’s one of the things that happens when you get stuck in a box. You feel like there is nothing more for you. Even if you know what you want to pursue for your life, you can’t see over the sides of the box you’re in to get moving towards your passion.
The best way to get started is to just do one thing. Do one thing different than what you have been doing. For me when I found my passion, I took one tiny step and attended a workshop. It didn’t seem like much, but it was catalyst to tearing down the sides of the box I had been stuck in. It gave me goals and a way to reach them. It was a step towards my passion and a step towards the freedom I was looking for in my life. Freedom is huge when it comes to pursuing passion. When you are no longer stuck or tied down feeling like nothing will ever change, freedom feels like the best ocean breeze, the best sunrise and like releasing the best deep breath of relief.
Take a step. Maybe you know what that step should be. Maybe you need to make a call, quit doing what is holding you back, break up with a toxic relationship, research your passion to learn more. Whatever it is, I encourage you to take a step. It may not seem like much, but it will be a step towards freedom and that’s feels amazing.
