When Good Enough is Good Enough

I was working on a project recently and fussing over the details when I realized something.  I’m the one who sees, has the vision for the project.  Which means, I’m the one who is critical about how it is turning out.  Which then means, I can lighten up and remember what I tell other people, good enough is good enough.

When we are working on a project, we have a tendency to over think, over research, over pressure ourselves.  Am I the only one who does that?  For example, this specific blog post.  I knew I want to talk about how perfection can be the death of us yet just didn’t know how to begin.  So, I fussed over it for about a week.  A true object lesson for me.

I’m not against researching or taking the time to get something right.  There is a time and place for all of that.  What I am advocating is that you don’t spend more time doing that type of activity than you do actually getting the work, or the project completed.

The Pressure

I meet with a writer’s group on Monday morning.  Talk about pressure, self-imposed but still pressure.  These are published authors and aspiring authors.  I fall somewhere in between.  I’m not published with an official book, but I have written an entire curriculum for helping people get unstuck in life.  I have a tendency to feel that I don’t really belong to this group.  That I’m “play acting” as a writer.  That what I’ve done is not good enough.  It’s an amazing group of people, encouraging and all at different stages in their writing careers.  I’m the one that has to own the feelings of not being good enough for the group.  How I push back those thoughts, I show up every Monday morning and write.  Simple, I don’t over think it, I don’t research what I’m writing on, I just write.

Bottom Line

Here’s a bottom line, when you feel that your work is not good enough, what are you really saying.  Because it is a reflection of how you truly deep down inside feel about yourself.  I’m here to tell you that you are good enough.  Just the way you are.  I’m good enough just the way I am.  I don’t have to write the perfect blog post, the perfect book, have a perfect life perspective to show on social media.  I just have to be me, and you just need to be you.

Show up

Where do you need to just show up?  Not over thinking your work, your project, whatever you are in the middle of.  Maybe it’s a relationship that you just need to show up and be present.  Maybe it’s time to stop waiting and move forward with a project or maybe it’s time to make the changes in your life and live out that vision you have for your life.  Trust me, you are good enough, your vision is good enough.

Need help getting unstuck, help with over thinking, help with moving forward?I’m here to co-adventure with you on your life adventure with Discover Your Real Life.
